Attention all Venturers,
Order of the Arrow members,
Sea Scouts, and Boy Scout Troops
and their families.
76, the CIEC Outdoor Ethics
Committee, and the Aca Chapter of Cahuilla Lodge
will be hosting a
shoreline cleanup at Lake
as part of our celebration of National Trails Day.
There is no
cost to attend this event and there will be free
entrance for all groups helping with the service
project. There is a day use fee of $10 per vehicle to
enter Lake Perris State Recreation Area for all
groups that are not helping with the service project. If
you aren’t going to be a part of the service project,
then you are expected to pay the full $10 per vehicle
entrance/day use fee.
When entering the park, please tell
the rangers at the front gate that you are with the Boy
Scouts and that you are there for the shoreline cleanup
Cleanup Service Project:
The service project will be a
shoreline clleanup along Alessandro Island. We will
meeting in Power Cove (Lots 11 & 12) at 7:30AM for a safety briefing
and then paddling kayaks along the shoreline to pick up
trash. Trash bags and gloves will be provided by the
Bring For The Service Project:
Persons taking part in the service project will need
to bring energy bars, trail mix or GORP (good old
raisins & peanuts) to keep up their energy level,
and at least 2 liters of water.
Scouts that will be paddling any of the kayaks or canoes in the
lake must turn in a BSA medical form
with parts A & B completely filled out. You
must also bring proof of completing a BSA swim check
within the last 12 months. The medical form and proof of
swim check must be turned into either the Chapter
Adviser or the attending lifeguards.
Registration: The potluck lunch
will be at the Sail Cove area next to the dam on the
northwest corner of the lake. We ask that you
register to attend in advance to make sure there
aren’t any duplicate dishes for the potluck lunch
(like 10 plates of hardtack). When you register
please let us know whether you are coming for the
service project or just for the potluck lunch and if
would prefer to bring a dessert, side or main dish
for the potluck lunch. Dishes should be able to

Kayaks, Canoes, & The Paddlers Games:
If you have your own canoe or kayak then you are
welcome to bring it. All persons that will be in the
paddlecraft are required to wear a PFD (personal
flotation device, also known as a life jacket). There
will be a limited number of kayaks, canoes and PFDs
available. If you have access to your own PFD
(minimum type 3) then please feel to bring it.
Kayak & Canoe Games: We will be holding games with
the kayak and canoes after the potluck.
Canoe Sail Races: If the wind is blowing at a
minimum 5mph and in the correct direction, then we
will be holding sail races. You will need to
construct your own sail using a hefty garbage bag
and whatever materials that you can procure.
Remember that you will need some way to attach the
sail to a canoe or kayak. Canoes in the sail race
will be a team competion and kayaks will be a solo
Floating Bathtub Paddle Race: The goal of this race
is to paddle a canoe 75 feet from shore, lean the
canoe over as far as you can with capsizing it in
order to fill it with as much water as possible.
Then, you have to paddle the canoe back to shore
without swamping it. You don't have to be the
fastest canoe to win. You have to have the boat that
is the most full of water and make it to shore to
Canoe & Kayak Ultimate Frisbee: If you've ever
played ultimate fisbee, then its pretty simple to
know the rules of the game here.

scouts and scouters participating in the service
project must fill out a liabilty waiver and
volunteer form required by the Rangers at Lake
Perris SRA. Anyone under 18 years of age must fill
out form Form DPR208c and
bring it with them to turn in to one of the leaders
of the service project. Anyone over 18 years old
must fill out Form DPR208g
and bring it with them to turn in to one of the
leaders of the service project.

2. If you are coming to help
with the service project then tell the rangers at
the front gate that you are with Boy Scouts service
project and you will get free entry to the park.
3. If you are only coming for
the potluck lunch & kayak football, and not the
service project, then you are expected to pay the
$10 per vehicle entrance fee.
4. Everyone is responsible
for their own breakfast and dinner.
5. We will be meeting in
Power Cove (Lot 11 & 12) at
7:30AM for the service project. The potluck lunch,
and paddle games will all be at Sail Cove next to
the dam in the northwest section of the lake.
